Get Niko For Android!
One
adventure that we’ve had a lot of fun with lately, has been our mobile
games. First with Lost Monkey, and then with our little friend Niko,
which was a co-creation between Sulake and award-winning developer,
Fabrication Games.
Niko has been available for iOS phones for a little while, so we’re happy to announce that we finally got a version for Android phones as well!
You can download Niko for free from the Google Play Store, and just like the iOS version, it’s also free to play the first six levels. The full game, which consists of three worlds and 30 levels (plus a bonus level at the end!), can be unlocked for only £1.49 (check your phone’s Google Play Store for the price in your own currency).
It’s an action-packed adventure game that combines genius sling shot actions and cool platform level designs, and the story line goes something like this: Niko needs help to rescue his friends who have been captured in a mysterious Otherworld. As Niko races through challenging game levels, he dodges traps, flips over monsters, and collects achievements on his way to saving all his friends.
As you progress in Niko, you’ll also be able to unlock rewards that are redeemable inside Habbo! You can collect items, such as special Niko Badges, a Niko Trophy, and even a “Surprise Item,” if you manage to rescue all of Niko’s friends!
If you want to know more, you should like our Niko Facebook page and follow Niko on Twitter!

Ask Us About Habbo Helpers!
For
the past few weeks, we’ve been giving you a lot of information about
Habbo Helpers and a bit about Habbo Talents as a whole. Now that we’re
nearing in on the global launch and the test phase is nearly over, I was
wondering… do you have any questions before it all goes live?
So I’m inviting you all to ask one question each in this post’s comment field!
On Monday I’ll be picking the very best questions (among those that haven’t already been answered in previous posts here on the blog) and giving them to the project manager to reply to before the launch.
Please make sure that you’ve already read the main post about Habbo Helpers and progress report #1, #2 and #3 – that way you won’t waste your question asking something that was already answered :)
…GO!
Let’s Talk About Retros
We
get a lot of questions about so-called retros, Habbos from all over are
asking about them through various channels, like this Blog, Twitter,
Facebook and forums as well, wondering if they’re safe or not. Without a
doubt, they are not safe. Today we saw rumours that Habbo
had been hacked and that our databases were stolen, when in fact it was
a retro site that had been hacked. It’s important to remember that we
focus very heavily on safety and security, something retros do not.
We want you to know that we do take this issue very seriously, and in order to help shed some light on the matter, I asked Sulake’s Legal Counsel, Taina Kämäräinen, a few questions.
Here’s what she had to say about retros!
Progress Report #3
This might be the last progress report before Habbo Helpers
goes live in all Hotels! I checked in with the project manager, and
although they experienced some technical challenges in the last week
that put them back a bit, he’s still hopeful that the delays won’t be
too big. Here’s what he had to say this time!
Six Tips To Help You Get The Most Out Of Your Monster Plants
Previously: 7 Stacking Tips You Can’t Live Without!
(This is a transcript of Charlie Chastain, motivational speaker, addressing a crowd of Monster Plant breeders at Moncon 2012. Despite the fact that he knew as much about Monster Plants as Jamie Kennedy does about… anything.)
Hello there! How we all doing today? Great, just great! My name is Charlie Chastain, you might remember me from that scandal a few months back starring that Hollywood celebrity and a hot-air balloon. Well, today I’m here to talk to you about how you can take great care of your Monster Plants, and really enjoy it in the process.
There’s nothing more fun than planting a seed, taking care of it, and watching it grow into an ugly pile of ears, eyes and mouths, am I right? But it’s not all fun and games, I know, I know, but these plants depend on you! You’re their rock, you’re the one they turn to when they need help, and while it might be a crushing responsibility, there’s nothing more beautiful than when a Monster Plant looks you in the eye and says “I’m not going to eat you,” nothing, except maybe Avatar in 3D. Have you seen Avatar? It’s about these blue cats (no, not Thundercats,) that live on an alien world and fight evil humans who want to destroy their forest home to mine for metals. It sounds dull, but it’s really a metaphor for the collapse of the Soviet Union, at least that’s what my girlfriend who’s a member of the Socialist Alliance says.
Okay! You ready? I know I am, so let’s begin to discover within ourselves how we can take control of our lives and really help these Plants be the most beautiful, ugly things ever born out of creation. Except maybe the Bonus Jonas.
An Interview With A Monster Plant
This week I had the misfortune to sit down with a Monster Plant
and ask it some questions. I didn’t want to, quite frankly, I can’t
look at a Monster Plant for longer than ten minutes without feeling ill.
Still, that’s ten minutes longer than I can look in a mirror. So I
wasn’t planning to talk to the Monster Plant, but my boss told me there
was a new flavor of popcorn (banana popcorn!) and they had some samples
in the meeting room opposite the toilets.
When I went to check, I found no popcorn at all. Instead as I entered, the door was locked behind me, and I found myself staring, open mouthed, open eyed (well for a few seconds, before my mind attempted to grasp the horror and recoiled in fright) at the creature before me. A trap!
Resigned to my fate, I began my interview. Wishing that banana popcorn really existed.
Monstrosities!
Innocent
looking seeds that grow into monsters with minds of their own, could it
be?? Oh yes, and it’s happening all across the Hotels for a couple of
days now! Gardeners tending to their pots, hoping perhaps to see a
dainty lily or a sweet smelling rose, but alas, no such luck…
Monster Plants are what you get!
(…which is pretty cool, if you ask me.)
Dragons and Ninjas, Oh My!
Did
you feel some mysterious shadow pass you by in the hallways of your
Hotel today? Maybe a hint of someone behind you, but when you turned
there was nothing at all? An eerie feeling has been creeping into the
Hotel, slowly, but surely, and it all started with the latest shipment
of new Japanese Furni…
Turns out, we had some unexpected stowaways arrive with the Furni. Stowaways that were there in a puff of smoke one second, then gone with the wind the next…
What’s more, it seems our new Japanese Furni is “infected” and if you buy a piece, you will automatically catch this invisibility of the Ninja, in form of an Avatar Effect!
It doesn’t end there, though, oh no…
Habbo Helpers – Another Progress Report

It’s been a whole week since we last updated you on the progress of the Habbo Helpers test stage and how it’s all going (time flies!), and now we’re back with another update!
Just like last time, I checked in with the project manager to see how everything is going, and to find out if we’re still on schedule. Here’s what he said this week!
Interviewing Rishell
In her role as Senior Manager in Social Media Products, Rishell “Rei” Biermann
is one of the new faces in our Sulake offices, adding to an impressive
roster of game companies such as Electronic Arts, Zynga and Playdom!
This week, Mark sat down with her to find out more about her and her new
role. Grab a bowl of buttered popcorn and read on!
Had you heard about Habbo before you started working here?
Yeah, everyone knows about Habbo! They created the blueprint for virtual
worlds and social interactions. I actually had to study it, so to
speak, when I first got into social gaming. One of the things that I’ve
always been impressed by are the creations players make. Some Habbos are
soooo amazing and it’s something I’ve never been truly good at.
